Purple by Reynaly Shen Javier

Art work by Emily Kray (https://emilykray.com/)

I hold my head high because I've gone far enough

to not look down on all the bruises and wounds,

but sometimes I wonder if I would've gone farther

if I waited for them to heal a bit more.

They say people who wake up early get tired easily,

I'm not sure if I really got the worm or just a worm.

I feel like the purple cape I wrap around myself at night

only makes me rethink taking a flight or fight.

Sinking in the duvet enough that I am catching my breath

I know this is a good place and I know I want to stay.

I've stopped asking for what I do not have,

but is it wrong to ask for more of what I do have?

Reynaly Shen Javier has an affinity for both numbers and words. She is taking up BS Statistics in the University of the Philippines while occasionally writing poems. She used to write news and feature for school publications. Over the quarantine, she started curating her writings online and discovered a knack for digital art. She is exploring ways to use and improve on these skills.
